St. Louis Area Undergraduate Research Symposium

The American Undergraduate Research Society (AURS) is proud to present the Spring 2009 St. Louis Area Undergraduate Research Symposium, an annual event held each spring that allows hundreds of undergraduates from six outstanding St. Louis area universities the opportunity to present their research results in a professional setting. Any undergraduate science or engineering student conducting research is invited to submit an application and abstract.

STLAURS provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the research of their peers, speak to the attending university faculty, interact with industry representatives, and receive both wisdom and inspiration from the invited speakers. Members of the larger St. Louis and Midwest scientific research community are invited to attend. This unique event is a collaboration involving Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, St. Louis University, University of Missouri at Columbia, University of Missouri at Rolla, Washington University in St. Louis, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and Webster University.

Presenting Research

At the symposium, students may present their work as either a poster or oral presentation, or both. Posters are set up on easels for the duration of the day. Poster presenters need to be on hand to answer questions about their project during the poster session. Judges from the six participating schools review the poster presentations. Oral presenters are allotted 8-10 minutes for a presentation followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer period. A faculty moderator coordinates each session and may also facilitate the discussion. Breaks are scheduled throughout the day for informal discussion of research topics and objectives.

Awards

Awards will be given to the best presentations in each category and a $500 prize will be given to the best overall presentation

Faculty and student representatives from each university select the faculty and student award recipients.
